Northwestern Hair Restoration offers a full ladder of hair restoration procedures, and every technique is performed by the same team, evaluated and designed by Dr. Vinay personally. We’ve developed our own extraction technologies (Micro PUE®, Discreet PUE®, Long Hair PUE®) along with more than a dozen advanced techniques, leading to striking, natural results that last a lifetime. Equally important, we developed processes that serve the budget-conscious patient. All consultations are performed by Dr. Vinay, who can tailor procedures to your financial goals while ensuring the result is better than standard FUE.
Hair transplant cost at Northwestern Hair is built from five steps, including the per-graft rate you see on this page as the foundation.
The most influential component of your cost. Determined in consultation through an in-depth evaluation of your procedure goals, the characteristics of your donor hair, and the capacity of our team to deliver the graft count you need in a single procedure.

We have four hair transplant techniques, each building upon the last with added benefits such as increased naturalness, discretion, and immediate results. Most patients combine No-Touch FUE and Micro PUE® within a single procedure rather than choosing one for the entire restoration. Discreet PUE® and Long Hair PUE® are rare because Micro PUE® can be performed discreetly with a concealed haircut and hair styling.

$5/graft on Studio Rate
The budget-efficient foundation, and the most natural result a standard FUE can deliver. It pairs Dr. Vinay’s Timeless Hairline Design — which matures naturally over time — with no-touch graft handling, so the placed hairs are less likely to kink, curl, or look unnatural from injury during the procedure. It can be used anywhere on the scalp, but is best for the mid-scalp and crown, where overall coverage matters more than the character of any single graft — which lets you preserve budget and concentrate your investment at the hairline with Micro PUE® for strikingly natural individual hairs. Learn more about No-Touch FUE.
$14 /graft
$12/graft on Studio Rate
A larger investment, worth it where individual graft quality is visible — at the hairline, when grafts are delicate and difficult to extract (fine, straight, or curly hair), or in revision procedures. Extracts the entire hair unit for healthier, hardier grafts, with the graft injury rate dropping from 15% to 2%. This means more grafts survive, leading to either fuller results or fewer grafts used — which can partly offset the higher per-graft price. This is where investing more changes the result you can see. Learn more about Micro PUE®.
$7 /graft
$5/graft on Studio Rate
A Micro PUE® performed without a haircut. What the added cost buys is privacy — no visible recovery — and it’s worth it when your work or personal life means you can’t have a haircut. It’s rarely needed, since our low taper fade or concealed haircut achieves the same goal at a lower cost with No-Touch FUE or Micro PUE®. Learn more about Discreet PUE®.
$7 /graft
$5/graft on Studio Rate
The top of the ladder: full-length hairs transferred for total concealment from day one and an immediate preview of your result. The investment is worth it when precise final density and instant, complete discretion are non-negotiable. There is real value in seeing what you ultimately get, and seeing it immediately. With Northwestern Hair Studio — $5,000 Savings
Northwestern Hair Studio is our patient content program, where procedures, clinical visits, and interviews are documented for future patients researching hair restoration. We collect photos, videos, and genuine testimonials and share them publicly — on our website, social media, and in print materials.
If you’re willing to be part of content creation, you save $2 per graft on any procedure — which makes Northwestern Hair Studio the most affordable hair transplant at a physician-driven practice in Chicago. A No-Touch FUE becomes $5 per graft. A Micro PUE® becomes $12, and similar for Discreet PUE® and Long Hair PUE®. The procedure itself is identical to what every other patient receives — the same physician, the same team, the same standard of care. Only the price changes.

Extraction techniques can be combined in one procedure, allowing us to optimize outcome and budget. For example, Micro PUE® can be used to extract hairs for the hairline where naturalness is most important, while No-Touch FUE can be used to extract hairs from the mid-scalp and crown, where coverage is most important. This requires the advanced technique of sequential extraction, but is often more cost-effective.
Most patients have specific goals — such as natural hairlines, expanded coverage requiring 6,000+ grafts (mega-session), revisions for botched procedures, or complete concealment — that can be better achieved with one or more advanced techniques. Northwestern Hair has developed more than a dozen advanced techniques that improve outcomes in these specific scenarios.
Each was developed in response to a real clinical situation where the standard procedure wasn’t enough. These are individually recommended techniques; Dr. Vinay identifies which ones fit your case during your consultation. Most patients receive a combination, not the whole catalog. Add-on technique prices are added to the per-graft procedure rate.
Prepares the recipient zone with increased blood flow and natural growth factors, creating an optimized environment for newly implanted follicles to take root and flourish.
CLINICAL FREQUENCY: 1–2 SESSIONS
Increases blood flow to the donor skin, allowing safe removal of more grafts. Used for procedures over 6,000 grafts or in patients who have had multiple previous FUE procedures.
Allows your procedure to remain undetectable to anyone you don’t tell. A thin strip is buzzed at the ridge of your scalp and folded back over with your existing hair, hiding the donor area through recovery. An option for any patient with at least an inch of hair length; approximately 1,000 grafts can be collected per inch of hair length (maximum of 6,000 grafts).
If you’re restoring your hairline, we can conceal your procedure in about 5 days with a simple low taper fade. All the hairs we need for the hairline are on the perimeter, so we just buzz the edges around your ears and lower neck and taper it into a normal haircut above. There’s no charge, because it’s a minor adjustment to your normal haircut.
Allows multiple extraction technologies to be combined in a single procedure, so different parts of your restoration can be harvested using the technique best suited to them, e.g., Micro PUE® at the perimeter of the donor area for fine, single-hair grafts at the front edge, paired with No-Touch FUE for the denser, multi-hair grafts in the mid-scalp and crown.
Makes your final result look more harmonious. The “ridge” is the band of dense hair at the equator of the scalp; if left untouched, it can sit conspicuously next to the restored areas. This technique debulks the ridge, sending those extra grafts where they’re needed.
Keeps grafts alive and healthy during long procedures. Used in mega-sessions of 6,000+ grafts, where grafts may sit outside the body for hours. They’re held at constant temperature in your own plasma alongside hypothermosol and ATP.
Makes a natural-looking hairline possible. A sapphire blade makes thin linear incisions instead of circular cores, fitting roughly 2 to 2.5 times the number of grafts in the same area. Critical for fine, single-hair grafts at the front edge and for high hair-to-skin contrast.
Adds density to areas where you still have hair. New grafts are placed between your existing hairs without injuring them, using a specialized linear blade narrow enough to avoid the surrounding follicles.
Maximizes how much hair growth you achieve. New grafts need blood supply to thrive, but blood supply only develops in response to demand, a catch-22. ACS sessions during the active regrowth window (months 3–6) provide growth factors directly, breaking the deadlock.
Many of these techniques share equipment, infrastructure, and team resources. When several are deployed in the same procedure, the costs don’t compound linearly — combining multiple techniques is often more efficient than the sum of their individual prices. Dr. Vinay will recommend the combination that fits your case during your consultation.

RECOMMENDED
Achieve “Optimized” results by making surgical technical adjustments. Preserves
clinical performance while managing investment.
Cost-Conscious Base
Ultimate density and survivability with Micro PUE® and Sapphire placement.
After the consultation, we provide you with a quote built around two prices: a cost-conscious base procedure (your graft count at our base No-Touch FUE rate) and a results-focused fully optimized procedure (every technique recommended for your case). If your budget falls between the cost of these procedures, we work within your investment goals to customize your procedure, prioritizing techniques that will yield the best outcome.
Matt came to me from London. He works in the music industry, travels constantly, and operates in rooms where visual presence is currency. He didn’t ask for natural. He asked for power.
A hairline can complement a face more than people realize — the angularity of the jaw, chin, nose, and cheeks all factor in. I designed Matt’s hairline on him directly, drawn against the angles of his face before a single graft was placed. 1,500 grafts total, built with the structure his world requires.
Sometimes the goal isn’t to blend in. It’s to make a statement.
MINIMUM INVESTMENT
Covers minimal supplies and full-day
staffing for a dedicated clinical team.
Your hair transplant cost includes everything except home prescription medications:
Laws prohibit us from dispensing some of the prescriptions you’ll need to take at home after your procedure, so those must be filled at your own pharmacy. Expect prescription costs to total between $0 and $30.
We help meet budgets by accounting for the duplicated supply cost of advanced techniques that use the same supplies. For example, Sapphire high-density grafting and intra-follicular grafting can be performed with the same supplies when necessary. We can also prioritize the techniques that matter most. Financing your procedure is always an option, with 6- and 12-month no-interest plans, in addition to 2- and 3-year standard plans.
Your hair transplant cost in Chicago is fixed, meaning there are no additional fees beyond what appears in your quote, and there are no fees associated with any particular form of payment. Choose the form of payment that makes pursuing the procedure easiest for you.
Most patients pay directly for their procedure, either as a single payment or split across the procedure timeline. We accept all standard payment methods, including credit card, debit card, ACH transfer, and check.

Beard transplants follow a similar cost structure to scalp procedures, but the planning and execution are different enough that they’re covered on their own page. The per-graft pricing, the four-technique ladder, and the consultation process are all similar, but the design considerations for a beard restoration deserve their own walkthrough.
Women’s hair transplants follow the same per-graft pricing structure. In practice, most women’s cases call for Micro PUE® or Discreet PUE® rather than No-Touch FUE — partly because women’s hair restoration often involves a more diffuse pattern of thinning that benefits from the healthier grafts Micro PUE® produces, and partly because the concealment Discreet PUE® offers matters more for many women. The full women’s restoration approach is covered on our Women’s Hair Restoration Program page.
African American hair has distinct characteristics. Hair tends to have a strong wave or curl and tends to be brittle. While each individual hair graft covers more area, there tend to be fewer grafts, and the extraction process is much more difficult because the follicle can curve away underneath the skin. These things need to be taken into consideration to create the most natural result possible. Micro PUE® is recommended for all grafts; this allows for more successful extraction of curved follicles, more delicate handling of brittle hair, and greater yield.
Younger patients often receive Micro PUE® because preserving donor longevity over decades matters most. A 22-year-old with a hairline restoration today may need additional restoration work in their 40s or 50s as native hair continues to thin, and the donor area has to support all of it. Healthier grafts and a more strategic harvest leave more donor capacity for future procedures. The investment in graft quality up front pays back across the full restoration trajectory.
Repair cases are not charged a premium per-graft rate. The price reflects the techniques the case requires, the same as any other procedure. Micro PUE® is significantly beneficial in repair cases because the recipient zone has often been compromised by the original procedure, and healthier grafts have a better chance of integrating. Recipient skin preparation with ACS and microneedling is also more frequently indicated when scar tissue is part of what we’re correcting.
Patients 60 and older follow the same per-graft pricing. The clinical difference is that pre- and post-op ACS or PRP support is more often indicated. Older skin and follicles benefit from the additional growth factor support during the healing and regrowth phases. Beyond that, the procedure planning and pricing structure are the same as for any other patient.
Every Northwestern Hair procedure is fully customized. Your accurate graft count, technique recommendations, and final price come from an in-person or virtual evaluation with Dr. Vinay.
At Northwestern Hair, hair transplant costs range from $5 to $28 per graft, depending on several factors, most importantly the procedure type. No-Touch FUE is $7 per graft (or $5 through Northwestern Hair Studio). Micro PUE® is $14, Discreet PUE® is $21, and Long Hair PUE® is $28. Most patients use more than one technique and add advanced techniques as the case requires. With a $7,500 procedure minimum, total cost ranges from approximately $7,500 to over $100,000 depending on technique selection and graft count.
Each technique is the right answer to a different question. No-Touch FUE is the standard procedure, suited to most patients and most cases. Micro PUE® produces healthier grafts and is the right choice where individual graft quality is most visible, such as the hairline, fine or curly hair, or revision cases. Discreet PUE® is the choice when the procedure has to remain undetectable through recovery. Long Hair PUE® is the most advanced, transferring full-length hairs for precise density control and an immediately previewed result.
Graft count alone doesn’t determine cost. Two clinics quoting the same number may be using different extraction techniques, different levels of physician involvement, different graft preservation methods, or different add-on treatments. The price reflects what’s behind the procedure, not just the number of grafts required.
Our pricing reflects a different caliber of technical expertise, technology, and operational capacity. We routinely perform 6,000–8,000 grafts in a single session, 2–3x the capacity of most Chicago clinics, and we perform procedures above 10,000 grafts. We’ve developed proprietary extraction technologies that produce hardier, more natural grafts. Dr. Vinay personally evaluates and designs every procedure. That infrastructure requires investment that the pricing reflects.
Micro PUE® is $14 per graft for the Micro PUE® extraction itself. Most patients combine Micro PUE® with No-Touch FUE, using Micro PUE® where it produces the most benefit (typically the hairline) and No-Touch FUE for the rest. Advanced techniques are added at $2,500 each as the case requires. Many techniques share infrastructure, so combining several is often more efficient than the sum of their individual prices.
Northwestern Hair Studio is our increasingly popular patient content program. By participating — allowing us to film and photograph your procedure and providing a genuine testimonial of your experience and new hair growth — you save $2 per graft on any procedure. The procedure itself is identical to what every other patient receives. Studio participation is approved case-by-case.
Yes. Northwestern Hair works with three external financing providers: PatientFi, CareCredit, and Cherry — all of which offer soft credit checks so you can explore options with confidence and without affecting your credit score. PatientFi has historically been the best fit for most of our patients.
Yes. Northwestern Hair accepts HSA and FSA payments. We provide an invoice for your procedure, and you handle eligibility with your plan administrator. Please confirm with your HSA whether your funds can be used for hair transplantation. Historically, all patients using HSA or FSA at Northwestern Hair have been successful.
Generally, no. Hair transplantation is classified as a cosmetic procedure, so insurance coverage is rare. Coverage is sometimes possible for hair loss caused by burns, trauma, or in gender-affirming care contexts. We provide all documentation needed for you to pursue reimbursement directly from your insurance provider, but we don’t file insurance claims in-house.
Most procedures at Northwestern Hair are completed in a single session. Our mega-session capacity (up to 10,000 grafts) eliminates the need to stage procedures across multiple appointments for most patients. Retouches or additional procedures years later are possible but not part of the initial cost.
The best calculator is a consultation with Dr. Vinay. An accurate graft count, the right technique, and the techniques that will improve your specific outcome can only be determined after evaluation. After your consultation, we present a base procedure, a fully optimized procedure, and a procedure customized to your budget.
