Hair Restoration for Men in Winnetka

Most male hair loss falls into one of three patterns: a receding hairline, a thinning crown, or both. The Winnetka consultation evaluates hair health, the trajectory of loss across the next decade, and age, then recommends the treatment that fits the case. Hair transplantation does what only surgery can do. Non-surgical restoration with ACS can manage cases where regenerative care is the right answer before, or instead of, surgery. Medical management addresses loss before it advances.

FUE Hair Transplant Consultation

Hair transplantation is the most definitive of treatments allowing one to physically move hair into the area of loss. Northwestern Hair is known for its advanced technique, Micro PUE, a refinement of standard FUE built to produce healthier grafts and more natural results than traditional FUE hair transplants.
The Clarendon Hills consultation aims to comprehensively plan the procedure to save the patient a trip downtown. Dr. Vinay designs each Northwestern Hair hairline himself to ensure a natural-looking outcome.
The hair transplant procedure itself happens at our main Chicago location, where state-of-the-art facilities support the advanced techniques utilized in the procedure

ACS Non-Surgical Hair Restoration

For men whose hair loss is less severe and may respond well to non-surgical care, Autologous Cellular Serum (ACS) is Northwestern Hair’s preferred option. ACS is a technique Dr. Vinay adapted from orthopedic surgery, and it has transformed non-surgical care at Northwestern Hair, becoming a genuine alternative to surgery, and for the right candidate, sometimes the better answer.
The ACS protocol includes 4 in-office treatments over 6 months, with results often appearing after the first session. For most men, ACS is a definitive long-term plan when combined with medical management to maintain gains and prevent further loss. Approximately 15% of men require maintenance treatments every 9-24 months.
ACS treatments are available at the Clarendon Hills office and do not require a trip downtown.

Medical Hair Loss Treatment

Medical management has the most leverage when a man comes in early. FDA-approved medications, prescription protocols, the right over-the-counter agents, and nutritional adjustment can significantly improve hair and prevent loss. The components are standard. What turns them into a working regimen is the structured monitoring that adjusts the protocol against what each case is actually doing.
The vast majority of medical treatments at Northwestern Hair are managed from home. Patients can order medications, treatments, and devices directly through Northwestern Access and have them delivered to their door. Follow-ups can be done virtually, or in person at the Clarendon Hills office, whichever you prefer.

Hair Restoration for Women in Winnetka

Women’s hair loss is rarely traceable to one cause. By the time a woman has scheduled an evaluation, she has usually been told it’s hormonal, or postpartum, or stress, or hereditary — sometimes all of those, by different clinicians who never spoke to each other. Any of them can be true at once, and treatment that addresses only one of them tends to fall short.

The Winnetka consultation is built around that complexity. A woman’s hair restoration plan typically combines surgical candidacy, non-surgical care through ACS, medical management, and Adaptive Trichopigmentation — the pigmentation technique Dr. Vinay and Mike developed together specifically for female hair loss.

Permanent surgical hairline restoration

FUE Hair Transplant Consultation for Women

A hair transplant is a real option for women, and the criteria that determine candidacy look different from men’s. The right candidate has stable donor density, a clear pattern of loss, and goals that match what surgical work can credibly deliver. Surgery suits a specific subset of women’s cases — localized thinning along the part line, defined recipient zones, or hairline restoration in cases where the donor area supports it. The consultation moves through donor evaluation, hairline design, graft count projection, and pricing the same way it does for men, but candidacy assessment is more conservative because female pattern hair loss often calls for medical and regenerative work alongside surgery, or in place of it. Many women feel more confident moving forward once candidacy and likely outcomes are clearly defined.

The honest version of the consultation is that for many women, the answer is not surgery — at least not yet. For the women who are candidates, Dr. Vinay designs and performs the procedure at our main Chicago location, applying the same hairline architecture and aesthetic judgment that defines every Northwestern Hair transplant.

ACS Non-Surgical Hair Restoration

Some of Northwestern Hair’s strongest outcomes in female patients have come through ACS. Patients experiencing diffuse thinning, early-to-moderate female pattern hair loss, the cases where the thinning has begun but transplantation is premature. The non-surgical protocol works on follicles that are still alive but functioning below capacity, and in the right cases, the treatment produces restoration substantial enough to delay surgery for years or remove it from the plan entirely. In the right case, this can support natural growth without moving immediately to surgery.

Medical Hair Loss Treatment for Women

Early intervention is where medical care does most of its work for women. The first months after delivery, the opening stretch of perimenopause, female pattern hair loss before significant density has been lost, these are the moments when a regimen has the most to give the case.
Dr. Vinay manages the medical regimen directly and adjusts based on response across the months that real treatment takes.

Dr. Vinay
Rawlani

Hair Loss Physician and Hair Transplant Surgeon

Dr. Vinay Rawlani is a board-certified physician trained in plastic surgery and hair restoration at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago, and the founder of Northwestern Hair Restoration. Three of the techniques the practice runs on came out of his work.

Micro PUE — the FUE refinement designed to produce healthier grafts and hairlines that age naturally rather than visibly dating themselves over the decades after surgery. ACS, Autologous Cellular Serum, the non-surgical protocol that has changed what’s possible for patients who aren’t surgical candidates. And Adaptive Trichopigmentation, co-developed with Mike, specifically for women’s hair loss.

The Winnetka collaboration with Magic Ink SMP came out of years of Dr. Vinay looking for a pigmentation practitioner who understood density technique for women’s hair the way Northwestern Hair’s patients needed it understood. He found that work in Mike’s teaching practice, and the development of Adaptive Trichopigmentation followed.

Hair Restoration Innovation Through Collaboration

Northwestern Hair operates on a single organizing principle: hair restoration delivers better outcomes when it sits beside the disciplines it can’t fully replace. At Winnetka, that discipline is scalp micropigmentation, the pigment work that fills visual density follicular spacing alone can’t deliver.

The clinic shares an address with Magic Ink SMP, the practice Michal Muszynski (Mike) has built over fourteen years. The same model defines our other satellite clinics: each is hosted by a specialist whose craft covers a different aspect of hair loss. Collaborators rotate across our network as patient plans require, so a Winnetka consultation can route patients to the trichology, hair replacement, and medical-workup specialists at our other locations.

Northwestern Hair Restoration is a physician-owned hair loss and hair restoration clinic founded by Dr. Vinay Rawlani, a board-certified physician trained in plastic surgery and hair restoration. The practice operates from a flagship in Streeterville plus three satellite clinics across Chicagoland.

Two innovations have come out of the practice – Micro PUE, the hair transplantation technique that extracts the full pilosebaceous unit, and ACS, the regenerative non-surgical treatment that competes with surgical outcomes for many patients.

At our Winnetka clinic, Northwestern Hair offers FUE and Micro PUE hair transplant consultation, ACS non-surgical hair restoration, and medical hair loss treatment, with Dr. Vinay personally on site on rotation days.

Magic Ink SMP

Magic Ink SMP is the practice Michal Muszynski built in Winnetka after years as a lead practitioner at one of the country’s most established scalp micropigmentation clinics. Magic Ink opened under his own name to do the work without compromise, and the practice has since become one of the destinations for serious SMP in the country. Patients travel to Winnetka from across the country and internationally to be treated by Mike.

Michal Muszynski

Master Scalp Micropigmentation Practitioner, Founder of Magic Ink SMP, recipient of the Meeting of the Minds award. Fourteen years in the field. More than ten thousand completed sessions. More than thirty-five hundred unique patients. Mike built Magic Ink to do scalp micropigmentation without the compromises that come with working inside a larger franchise model. The patients who travel to Winnetka from across the country and internationally are the practice’s evidence.

Where the practices fully combine is in the women’s pigmentation work. Adaptive Trichopigmentation (ATP) is a scalp pigmentation technique Dr. Vinay and Mike developed together, specifically for female hair loss. Like traditional scalp micropigmentation, it places pigment in the scalp to create the appearance of fuller hair density. Unlike traditional SMP, the pigments are cosmetic-engineered and color-matched to the patient’s natural hair tones, placed superficially in the epidermis so they exfoliate naturally over months rather than lasting permanently, and mapped against the future hair transplant work a woman’s case may require. It’s the women’s-specific answer to a question the field has not properly addressed: how to deliver the visual density of pigmentation without the long-term constraints that traditional SMP imposes on a multi-decade disease course.

Frequently Asked Questions

About our Winnetka Hair Restoration Clinic

Is the hair transplant procedure performed at the Winnetka clinic?

No. The FUE hair transplant procedure is performed only at Northwestern Hair Restoration’s flagship in Chicago, where the surgical environment, the surgical team, and the equipment Micro PUE requires are based. Consultation, planning, ACS non-surgical hair restoration, medical hair loss treatment, scalp micropigmentation, ATP, and post-procedural follow-up all happen in Winnetka. The surgical day is the single trip downtown.

ATP is a pigmentation technique Dr. Vinay and Mike developed specifically for women’s hair loss. Traditional scalp micropigmentation was designed for men’s pattern baldness and uses permanent dermal pigments that suit the male shaved aesthetic but carry long-term discoloration risks women shouldn’t have to accept. ATP uses cosmetic-engineered pigments color-matched to natural hair tones, placed superficially in the epidermis so they exfoliate naturally over three to six months, with pigment placement mapped against future hair transplant coverage. The full clinical case for the technique is on our ATP service page.

Insurance does not typically cover hair transplantation or most hair restoration treatments, as hair loss is generally considered a cosmetic condition. We provide invoicing so patients can submit to their insurance directly when applicable. Treatments are HSA- and FSA-eligible where the patient’s plan allows.

Yes. Northwestern Access, our online care platform, offers virtual evaluation for early-stage cases and serves as a primary care pathway for medication-based treatment. For surgical evaluation, ATP planning, or cases that benefit from in-person pigmentation consultation with Mike, an in-person visit to the Winnetka clinic is the appropriate next step.
