When I had my own transplant, I thought I was chasing density. In hindsight, ACS alone could have given me the results I wanted. And while my transplant looked good at first, I knew it wouldn’t last. It wasn’t the standard I hold myself to today.
Going through that process changed everything. I experienced every decision, every doubt, every healing milestone my patients now face, and it gave me a sharper lens for what matters most. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to refine each step of the journey, from graft survival to design language. My hair grew back, but more importantly, so did a whole new standard for care.
I started shaving my head well before I lost my hair. I was tired of putting goop or foam in my hair and seeing little to no impact. I scheduled a transplant in 2012 with another doctor and backed out because it was such a high-pressure consultation that it just didn’t feel right to proceed. Fast forward 8 years. Someone very close to me was having great success with new meds and I thought it was time to reach out and see if medicine had a solution for my hair loss. I talked with several clinics – each selling me the promise of a full head of hair with just a couple procedures. Felt like 2012 all over again. I was about to give up when I came upon Northwestern Hair. I paid for the consult. It was a casual conversation where Dr. Vinay came to learn more about me and my goals.
